Cox Scores Top 3 Finish in First Outing with Pack Motorsports

June 3, 2012

The new partnership between Pack Motorsports and driver Stephen Cox yielded instant results last weekend after the team posted a Top 3 finish in its first effort.

The Super Cup Cool Shirt 100 Presented by Rush Enterprises was held at West Virginia’s historic Ona Speedway Saturday night. With sponsorship from Boschett Timepieces and McGunegill Engines, series rookie Stephen Cox qualified 6th in Pack Motorsports’ second car just ahead of teammate J. J. Pack.

Pack was caught up in a first lap accident that eventually forced a mechanical DNF, but Cox’s car moved through the field and was battling eventual winner Harvey Harrison for the lead midway through the race.

On a re-start, the #63 car of Jimmie Crabtree bumped Cox’s #21 Boschett Timepieces/McGunegill Engines Special from behind. Cox was shuffled to the rear of the field but managed to work his way back to fourth.

On the final turn of the 100th lap, Cox dove in the grass to avoid the sputtering car of Brent Nelson and take third place at the checkered flag.

The event marks Cox’s first full oval event since racing the ARCA series in 2003. He now moves into 3rd place in the 2012 Super Cup points battle and leads the rookie points chase.
